Joy Giovannetti

Lead RVT

Joy grew up in a small Nova Scotia fishing village called Port Morien. Since childhood, animals small and large have made up a large piece of her heart. Her goal was to ensure patients receive the best care possible, and that both owners and patients feel comforted.

Joy’s career in Veterinary Medicine started at Cape Breton Veterinary Clinic in 1986. She found myself really enjoying her new career in animal care. After several years, she got married and moved to PEI, where she began working at Southport Animal Hospital. As her family, both human and furry, started to grow, she moved to a farm in Montague. This led her to Montague Veterinary Clinic, where she worked for many years. On her farm she had 5 horses, 2 barn cats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, cattle, and our beloved Kuvasz named Wren.

In March of 2005 Joy moved back to Cape Breton with her 2 young kids. Later in August of that year she began work at Sydney Animal Hospital. In 2015 she began studying for an online course to obtain her Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) certification, and later graduated in the spring of 2016.

Her family consists of my partner Scott, daughter Victoria, and son Ethan. Joy and her daughter are avid equestrians, and own 2 American Quarter Horses named Ben and Levi. They also have a miniature horse named Blue, who always keeps them on their toes. The last furry member of her family is their beloved Standard Poodle, Voodoo. Victoria is passionate about competitively showing horses and dogs. Ethan has always been an enormous help with the physical work that accompanies horse ownership, and they can always count on him to help with any task.

Joy love’s every aspect of her job, but her biggest passion lies within the surgery suite. Joy feels very fortunate to have a diverse and dedicated group of employees at her clinic. While each of one has different strengths and weaknesses, they support each other through any challenge.

Some interesting facts about Joy can be found in her passion for the outdoors. she enjoys horseback riding, snowshoeing, hiking, swimming, canoeing, boating, fishing, camping, riding her motorcycle, and ATV.
